Addagrip Terraco were honoured to be involved in a very special project for ITV’s ‘Love Your Garden’ television programme with Alan Titchmarsh.

Having helped out with our surfacing systems on previous ‘Love Your Garden’ projects, Addagrip approved contractor Resin Bonded Surfacing Ltd of Doncaster was asked to install our resin bound surfacing for pathways at a newly created garden for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital to mark the 70th Anniversary of the NHS.

The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital is the largest single-site children’s hospital in the country seeing over 220,000 patients a year and was amongst hospitals across the North West of England that cared for those injured in the Manchester Arena bombing on 22nd May 2017.

Staff, patients and families had contacted Alan asking if a commemorative garden could be created for patients and families to provide a quiet space for contemplation. To mark the year’s first anniversary of the bombing and the 70th Anniversary of the NHS, the Love Your Garden team worked their magic again to create a wonderful garden space for patients, visitors and staff.

As part of the design there was a requirement for a decorative, natural aggregate surface that would be low maintenance, hard wearing and comfortable underfoot. Requiring minimum groundworks, Terrabase Rustic, our ‘no-dig’ Resin Bound surface, was selected in a Rustic Beach blend and installed onto an MOT base to provide natural looking paving for both the pathways and the seating area.  Patterns were also created in the paths using a range of Addacolor Resin Bound surfacing blends to produce a welcoming walkway through the newly created garden. The seamless Terrabase Rustic finish is also porous, ensuring no surface water, allowing the garden to be accessible all year round.

The finished garden provides a quiet, engaging, outdoor space offering a place to reflect and remember for patients, families and the staff themselves.

Addagrip were pleased to be able to help out with such a worthy cause and would like to thank Dave Tweedie and his team at Resin Bonded Surfacing Ltd, Doncaster, for offering their time to install the Resin Bound pathways and extend our gratitude to Long Rake Spar Ltd for gifting the aggregates.
