GRP building products manufacturer showcases traditional architectural features
Specialist manufacturer, Stormking, has provided 16 specially produced dormers for a 114 house development by Barratt Homes North Scotland. This stunning new development of 3 and 4 bedroomed homes and apartments has been specifically designed to include traditional architectural features typical of the local Scottish environment.
The special Stormking dormers make a superb feature on this prestige development. The three sided prefabricated GRP Piended Stormking dormer roofs blend in completely with existing houses in the surrounding area, retaining the character of the region.
The new development is in the town of Ellon, not far from the mouth of the Ythan River on the beautiful Scottish north east coast, and features a host of well established buildings dating back hundreds of years, many with unique local detail.
Barratt Homes chose Stormking to design and manufacture the special dormers because of their proven ability to provide prefabricated products to BBA standards and to deliver on time and within budget. The development has now been finished to the complete satisfaction of Barratt Homes, the local authority and especially the new home owners who have snapped up the homes because of their design compatibility and quality of build.
Stormking dormers are well accepted and acknowledged by architects, local authorities, specifiers and leading UK developers of residential buildings as a cost effective alternative to using traditional building materials such as stone, slate, concrete and timber. They also have many advantages, especially saving time and cost by eliminating site fabrication and the inconsistencies which can often result. They are also very quick to crane into position on site, reducing time spent on the roof and making for safer working conditions, less need for skilled labour, reduced scaffolding requirements and less site wastage.
The Stormking dormers come complete with their own tiling already fixed with dry valley and abutment flashings and, if required, with front apron flashings to ensure a water proof installation.
As well as saving time on site, Stormking dormers are virtually maintenance free and have a proven longevity.
The specially produced designs were created using Stormking’s Autocad Inventor 3D Modelling System for the design, structural and installation issues in compliance with NHBC and local authority requirements. They are manufactured under ISO14001 Environmental Management procedures and to ISO9001 Quality Assurance systems.
Stormking is the largest manufacturer of prefabricated building components in the UK and uniquely holds BBA certification. The company produces over 1000 prefabricated products a week from its factories in the Midlands and produces products for house builders and developers including entrance canopies, bay roofs, dormers, chimneys, porticos, columns, towers, domes, cornice moulding and copings, each in a selection of styles, colours and textures to enhance any building project.
