Stormking prefabricated dormers complete the period style homes
Stormking, the specialist building products manufacturer, has combined modern prefabrication methods with traditional materials for a prestige housing development at Belvedere in St Saviours, Jersey for Dandara Jersey Limited.
Stormking have supplied complete roof dormer units for the mixed 4 and 5 bedroomed homes which are close to the sea in St Helier and therefore subject to harsh weather conditions at times.
Made to Dandara’s specific requirements to blend with existing housing in the area, the dormers have been finished in real lead. With this unusual requirement in today’s marketplace, Stormking needed to work closely with a local lead master craftsman to ensure the finished dormers comply fully with Lead Sheet Association standards. It also involved additional design features in the moulding of the dormers to incorporate venting behind the lead sheeting and built in anchors to secure the finished panels in place whilst allowing for thermal movement after installation.
Dandara specified Stormking for these dormers because of their unrivalled experience in the design and manufacture of prefabricated grp building products to BBA standards. Dandara wished to take advantage of the benefits of using complete prefabricated dormers which reduce installation time and build costs as they are supplied to site ready to fix and for internal finishing. This reduces the need for, and costs of, skilled labour, ensures consistency of units and quality of detail, and therefore reduces site wastage. The dormers are also easier to handle on site and are less susceptible to the challenges of winter working.
Stormkinghave led the way for over 28 years in developing modern grp based building products which are not only cost competitive against traditional materials but also have a proven longevity, which is often greater than the original. Stormkinghave a reputation for setting high quality standards for design solutions and manufacture for the industry, using their own Autocad design and 3D modelling programmes.
The grp products are now universally accepted as an economical, durable and highly convenient alternative to conventional building materials and have been widely adopted by house builders, developers, local authorities, housing associations and the specification sector.
The range of products available from Stormking continues to grow and includes entrance canopies, bay roofs, dormers, chimneys, porticos, columns, towers, domes, cornice mouldings and copings, each with a selection of styles, colours and textures to enhance any building project in rural or urban areas throughout the country.
Stormking is also happy to design solutions for individual requirements where necessary, including very large grp items and works to ISO9001 Quality Assurance and ISO14001 Environmental Standards.
Stormking’s Barry Whitehall says: “The development for Dandara Jersey is a prestige project requiring the highest quality standard. It also introduced unusual aspects – notably working with real lead – which demanded special considerations. All parties to the development are very pleased with the final results for looks and performance and, as a result, the properties are proving very popular for house purchasers.”
