Faced with a roof requiring an update, the main terminal at Aberdeen International Airport needed a fast, high performance and long term solution. BriggsAmasco fitted the bill perfectly with the specification and application of a comprehensive Sarnafil roofing system.
Forming part of an ambitious twenty year, £100 million capital investment programme, LHR Airports Ltd and main contractor Balfour Beatty required a proven, durable and reliable roofing solution. Having successfully completed other roofing works at Aberdeen Airport, BriggsAmasco was chosen once again to deliver a roofing application of the highest standards.
With the main roofs totaling 4000m2 to overlay, a Sarnafil roof management system – renowned for high quality, long term performance – proved ideal. To cause as little disruption as possible and with minimal impact to the busy airport’s operations, BriggsAmasco completed some of the works in the early hours when aircraft movements are at a minimum.
The BriggsAmasco team were required to strip off more than 400 tonnes of ballast and insulation from the existing roof prior to the application of the comprehensive built-up roof system. This involved the use of a vacuum machine to remove the ballast which was then recycled by the airport. As part of the renovation, a new 120mm thick insulation was also installed to improve the energy efficiency in line with modern standards.
The Sarnafil Roof Management option helped to deliver a complete roofing package. From initial consultation to survey and specification through to installation and inspection – the airport benefited from a roof service with a single point responsibility guarantee, covering design, materials and workmanship.
Utilising high-performance materials, outstanding workmanship and the company’s expertise to deliver waterproofing solutions, the new high quality roof was completed to meet all the client’s demands.
