With renewable energy and sustainable products at the forefront with Tobermore, the world class paving and walling manufacturer has implemented new methods to reduce the impact of construction on the natural environment.
As well as employing a rainwater harvesting system and installing solar panels in their factories, the company has recently had a 104m tall, 250KW wind turbine installed at the 50 acre manufacturing plant at company headquarters in Tobermore, Northern Ireland, as a method of harnessing wind energy to generate electricity on site. The wind turbine is set to produce an average of 1,095 MWh of energy per year which will provide an energy efficient system to assist in the mass production processes which take place at Tobermore.
The manufacturer, who supplies products throughout the UK and Ireland, offer an innovative variety of Eco products for the commercial market. With environmental issues becoming more prevalent in the construction industry, the eco range ensures the creation of a sustainable landscape. The Eco collection has excellent carbon footprint ratings and recycled content.
Tobermore ensure that the Eco range is manufactured not only to provide practical benefits, but to also offer fabulous landscape design options to suit every application. Each Eco paving product available is designed with the same appearance and character of the standard product equivalent. Tobermore’s Tegula, Fusion, Sienna, Shannon and Pedesta block paving and Mayfair and Textured Flag ranges are all readily available as Eco products.
This is the same case with Tobermore’s striking Country Kerb, the mortar-free Secura retaining walling systems and the vibrant facing brick ranges. This ensures that when selecting eco products to be incorporated on a landscaped area, an aesthetically pleasing result is still guaranteed.
Tobermore additionally offer Eco Hydropave products. Hydropave is a permeable paving range which provides a sustainable method of storm water drainage, referred to as SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems). With Hydropave providing a solution to flooding and pollution issues, Eco Hydropave products promise endless environmental benefits.
Tobermore has recently supplied Eco Hydropave 240 paving products for the bright, contemporary style landscape at the University of Hertfordshire. Paving products with recycled content were essential in meeting the BREEAM and planning requirements for this project which is why Tobermore’s products were the perfect solution. The University has recently won a RIBA East award for its architectural excellence.
