Contrary to popular belief there is no decibel limit that needs to be exceeded for noise to be categorised as a “statutory nuisance”. The European Union has set 65dB as the maximum acceptable limit of noise a person can tolerate on a daily basis, while levels between 70-125dB can be painful (a passing motorcycle may reach 100dB), above that, outright unbearable.

What is the secret of Secondary Glazing?
Secondary glazing is an internal window that can be fitted into the reveal (Windowsill) or face fixed (fixed to the wall). Here at Granada we recommend a minimum gap of 150mm. This gap is from the primary window to the secondary window. The key to reducing noise levels is to break up the sound wave passing through glazed units. The installation of secondary glazing adds an extra barrier for the noise to penetrate. By adding an extra barrier and the air gap between the primary window and secondary window we are confident that in most cases you will see a noise reduction of up to 80%.
